Week 8: Still Life
My home is full of interesting still life: a dirty bowl here, toys scattered there, a vacuum propped in a corner that has been there for two weeks. On any given day you will see a scene of Olaf and Rex hanging out on the couch seemingly having a conversation. There are often a herd of farm animals hanging out on my TV stand or puzzle pieces strewn about. This is the life of a mom with a toddler... or any kid for that fact. I knew I was going to do something involving my kiddo's toys because he often leaves them around the house in interesting combinations. This time however he left a toy in an interesting place and it scared the bejesus out of me in the middle of the night. He must of left it here after his daddy gave him his bath because I had no idea it was in there. But this is how I was greeted at 2:30 in the morning with a full bladder and a baby pushing on it. I almost wet myself.
Most of you are probably thinking "Scared? It's not like it's a Tyrannosaurus Rex or anything?!" But let me tell you I am blind without my glasses and all I saw at first glance was some sort of green lizard thing. I literally gasped. Then when I realized what it was my next thought was..."I'm going to have to get a picture of that in the morning." And there was my still life. Life is never dull when a child is running around and thank God for that!
May your week be anything but dull!-Rachael
I am a mom and a photographer. My love of motherhood led me to photograph all things from bellies to birth and beyond.
